Frontline Developments MG LE50 Re-imagines Iconic MGB For 50th Anniverary

Released in 2012 to coincide with the iconic MGB sports coupe’s 50th anniversary, the Frontline Developments MG LE50 is a thoroughly re-built and re-worked classic. Upgraded to deliver contemporary performance and reliability, the LE50 may not come cheap, but is a veritable bargain compared to other re-issued, resurrected, revived and continuation British sports car classics.

Tasteful and unostentatious the LE50 promises lightweight thrills in terms of agility and performance, and is built using a new seam-welded body for authenticity and added rigidity to cope with contemporary handling expectations and performance. Unapologetically classic in appearance the LE50 sports period bumpers and Dunlop wheels shod with relatively slim 195/65R15 rubber, and retains live-axle rear suspension, which is however reworked with four-links for improved ride and handling.

Powered by a modified Mazda MX-5 2-liter four-cylinder driving the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox and optional limited-slip differential, the LE50’s engine has been dramatically re-worked, and with 45mm individual throttle bodies is high-revving and muscular. Developing 214BHP at 7200rpm and 175lb/ft at 3600rpm, the 941kg LE50 hits 100km/h in 5.1-seconds and tops out at 260km/h, while a 238BHP optional Plus version is available.
